House by the Meadow

SN 112 HOUSEBYTHEMEADOW IMAGE02

The House by the Meadow is located at the intersection between nature and built form. From the meadow the house appears as a backdrop for nature, with uninterrupted surfaces that capture the light and shadow of the moment. Seen from the village, the form suggests continuity with the vernacular architecture by distilling the archetypal pitched roof house to its bare essence. Cooking and eating play an important role in the house with a double height dining space at its core. Situated along a tree line, the house overlooks an open meadow. Differing openings create a series of relationships with the landscape: a wide panoramic view when cooking, a double height dramatic view when dining and a low intimate alcove window when seated by the fire. The Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) shell of the house is built around a mineral core that facilitates storage, circulation and installations.
